OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - California Highway Patrol says officers have arrested a man after he drove through the Bay Area waving a long pole from his car.

The agency told KNTV-TV (https://bit.ly/2bfcjok ) that the 28-year-old driver was booked on suspicion of evading police and DUI after a low-speed, three-hour chase ended in Oakland early Wednesday.

The vehicle’s tires burned up after the driver ran over spike strips.

Video from the scene shows a police dog barking at the car and officers commanding the driver to get out with his hands up.

Sgt. John Koven says the suspect was taken to the hospital after he was bitten by the dog. He says the driver was also sweating heavily and showed signs of possible intoxication or mental disorder.
