BANGOR, Maine (AP) - The Dorothea Dix Psychiatric Center will continue to be endorsed as a fully accredited hospital following an unannounced three-day review.

The nonprofit Joint Commission came to the hospital to interview staff and review its business practices and documentation. The commission first accredited the psychiatric center in 1988.

Dorothea Dix superintendent Sharon Sprague says the hospital performed well in issues of treatment plans and the transparency of hospital staff.

Maine Department of Health and Human Services Commissioner Mary Mayhew says the independent review is a vote of confidence in the hospital.

Dorothea Dix is one of the Maine State Department of Health and Human Services’ two psychiatric hospitals.
