ELLSWORTH, Maine (AP) - Authorities in Maine have charged a man with arson over a trash fire outside a store in Ellsworth.

Police say 46-year-old Patrick Nevells set fire to a trash can outside Mike’s Country Store in Ellsworth on Tuesday afternoon before leaving the scene. A driver then reported the fire to the store owner, who extinguished it.

Police say Nevells is a transient who lives in the area. He was arrested later Tuesday.

He is being held at Hancock County Jail in Ellsworth. It’s unclear if he has an attorney.
