GEORGE WEST, Texas (AP) - A South Texas boy has died after his ATV overturned on a highway and was hit by a truck as he and a friend were rabbit hunting before dawn.

The Department of Public Safety says 14-year-old Reagan Lyne (lin) of George West was killed in the accident around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday. Sgt. Nathan Brandley says a 13-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries in the wreck on U.S. 59 near George West.

Brandley says relatives said the boys went hunting. DPS says the ATV overturned while making a U-turn in the northbound lane. Reagan was trapped under the ATV. His friend was ejected.

Brandley says an 18-wheeler came upon the ATV, amid the darkness, and the trucker applied the brakes but couldn’t stop.

Reagan died at the scene. The trucker wasn’t hurt.
