MOORESVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A developer is planning to add a $1 million indoor sports facility to a former mill complex in Mooresville.

Michael Bay tells The Charlotte Observer (https://bit.ly/2aL4WlW) that he intends to build an indoor basketball court, an indoor soccer field and a youth boxing gym in the main former Burling Industries building by January. The facility would span 15,000 square feet.

Bay, who owns the complex and operates Merinos Home Furnishings Warehouse there, is scheduled to seek a zoning recommendation for his plans from the Mooresville Planning Board on Thursday.

The Mooresville Board of Commissioners, which has final say, has scheduled a public hearing and a vote for Sept. 6.

Mooresville Mills operated the complex before Burlington Industries, which made denim at the plant before shuttering it in 1999.
