MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Authorities say two jailers have been charged with bringing electronic contraband into the Shelby County Jail.

The Shelby County district attorney’s office said Thursday that Domonique Williams and Brianna Hawthorne have been indicted on charges of taking contraband into a penal facility. Hawthorne also has been charged with tampering with evidence. Court records do not show if they have lawyers.

Investigators said Williams was stopped by security officers attempting to enter the jail while wearing a Samsung Smart Watch on June 1. The watch can be used to make and receive phone calls and send text messages. Authorities say she had been allowing prisoners to use the device.

Hawthorne is accused of trying to bring a cellphone battery into the jail on May 20 and concealing it from security officers.
