ORCUTT, Calif. (AP) - Farmworkers started jumping off a still-moving bus as it burned in Central California.

The California Highway Patrol says six people were injured when the bus carrying dozens of workers caught fire.

It was on Highway 135 near the community of Orcutt in Santa Barbara County when it began to smoke Thursday afternoon.

The CHP says the driver slowed to about 5 mph and the 28 people aboard began to jump off.

The bus went off the road and burned, setting a small brushfire that was quickly contained.

Fire officials tell KSBY-TV that six people were taken to a hospital for injuries that included burns. One person had major injuries, one had moderate injuries and four had minor injuries.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
