CRESAPTOWN, Md. (AP) - Maryland correctional officers are urging the state to hire more officers to improve safety in prisons.

Officers at the North Branch Correctional Institution and the Western Correctional Institution are scheduled to gather Thursday in front of the NBCI in Cumberland.

They say western Maryland prisons are deeply impacted by the lack of filling open positions.
