AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - The Maine Department of Environmental Protection has released an advisory warning that ground-level ozone concentrations are expected to reach unhealthy levels.

The Portsmouth Herald reports (https://bit.ly/2aYjmQk ) unhealthy levels are expected to be experienced Thursday along Maine’s coast from Kittery to Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island.

Environmental officials have warned that children and adults who exert themselves and those who suffer from respiratory diseases such as asthma may experience reduced lung function and irritation as a result. Individuals may notice a shortness of breath, coughing, throat irritation or an uncomfortable sensation in their chest.

The advisory states that sensitive people and those who work outdoors should be especially cautious and avoid strenuous activity during the afternoon if possible.
