MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Authorities say a father has been charged with first-degree murder in the drowning of his 10-month-old son in a bathtub.

The Shelby County district attorney’s office says 23-year-old Cedric Barr Jr. has also been indicted on charges of aggravated child abuse and murder in the perpetration of aggravated child abuse.

Authorities say Cayden Vaughn died at a hospital on April 13. Investigators say Barr told them that he had put the boy in the bathtub, left him unattended and returned to find him underwater and not breathing.

Authorities say Barr told investigators that he again left the bathroom, returned later and watched his son underwater for about five minutes before taking him out and wrapping him in a blanket.

It is not immediately clear if Barr has a lawyer.
