HAHNVILLE, La. (AP) - Heavy rain and resulting flooding has prompted St. Charles Parish President Larry Cochran to declare a state of emergency.

In a statement Thursday, Cochran says the move is precautionary in anticipation of further rainfall later this week.

The Department of Wastewater has put a sewer notice in place for all residents in St. Charles Parish urging them to minimize their sewer use until further notice.

Flooding has closed several roads in the parish including areas in Destrehan, Boutte and Luling and there are reports of high water in those cities as well as in Norco, St. Rose and Ama.
