CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) - Driving from Corvallis to the coast at night will be a little trickier in the coming months.

The Gazette-Times reports (https://is.gd/uZCtsz ) that hillside blasting and debris removal from the Highway 20 realignment project will cause overnight road closures starting Sunday and lasting through Halloween.

The closures will last from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Sunday through Thursday nights. There also will be short, intermittent closures during daylight.

There’s no local detour, and motorists looking to get to the coast are advised to use Highway 18 in the north and Highway 34 in the south.

The work will eliminate a winding 10-mile section near Eddyville and replace it with a 5.5-mile straight shot through the hills. The old stretch has been the scene of 15 fatal crashes since 1999.
