KALONA, Iowa (AP) - A southeastern Iowa man is facing felony theft charges after being accused of stealing a livestock trailer and four cows.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports (https://icp-c.com/2aPoFCS ) that 19-year-old Michael Escher, of Kalona, was arrested and released Tuesday.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says Escher stole a 16-foot livestock trailer from Frytown Trailers in Kalona and later loaded four cows from Oxford Sale Barn in Oxford onto it. Investigator reports say the thefts occurred between July 26 and July 27. Escher is charged with theft and burglary.

Investigators say Eshcer told them he intended to sell the cows.

Authorities say the trailer is valued at more than $10,000 and the cows at about $7,000.

A phone number for Escher could not be found Thursday.
