LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - Users of Craigslist and buying and selling groups on Facebook now have a safe space to complete transactions.

Officials with the Lafayette Police Department and Lafayette Consolidated Government have setup parking spots that will be monitored by police.

Councilwoman Liz Webb-Hebert tells The Advertiser (https://bit.ly/2aDQ9hp) the parking spots will give residents meeting up to exchange items or even custody of children a safe space for doing so.

The safe space is on University Avenue, across the street from the Lafayette Police Station.

Police Chief Reginald Thomas said the exchange space will help cut down on people getting swindled.
