LAS VEGAS (AP) - Authorities say they’ve rescued a landscaper who was stuck high in the fronds of a palm tree in Las Vegas.

Several fire crews responded to a neighborhood near Rancho Drive and Oakey Boulevard after being called a little before 11 a.m. on Thursday.

Las Vegas Deputy Fire Chief Eddie Vigil said the worker was strapped to the tree while trimming it when a heavy set of fronds collapsed on top of him.

Vigil says the man’s coworkers couldn’t free him and he was having trouble breathing, so specially trained firefighters with a crane came to help.

Vigil says the man was alert and conscious after being cut away from the tree.

At least two Las Vegas-area tree trimmers died in similar incidents in the past two years.
