ISLAND PARK, N.Y. (AP) - A Long Island man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run boating accident that left a woman with serious injuries.

Nassau County police said Thursday that 59-year-old Bennett Ragusa, of Island Park, was arrested on charges of leaving the scene of an accident involving serious physical injury. Information on his lawyer wasn’t immediately available.

Police say Ragusa was operating a cigarette boat and speeding through a 5 mph zone when he crashed into an 18-foot boat in Reynolds Channel near Island Park early Sunday evening.

Police say Ragusa sped away, leaving a 50-year-old passenger in the other boat unconscious with three broken ribs and a fractured spine. The victim’s husband said the two were on their way back from a day on the water with their family.
