SPRINGPORT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A southern Michigan man has been charged in the fatal shootings of two 18-year-old men near his Springport Township home.

The Jackson Citizen Patriot reports (https://bit.ly/2blT4IX ) that 53-year-old Tracy Lawrence was arraigned Thursday on second-degree murder and using a firearm during a felony charges.

Matthew Lyle McMillen and Hunter Scott Lentz were found dead in June.

Defense attorney Jared Hopkins said Thursday it a “self-defense case” and “not a typical murder case.”

Jackson County Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Kati Rezmierski said when news broke about the shootings there were “indications that they were breaking into Mr. Lawrence’s home.”

Rezmierski also said her office “received and reviewed the whole report of the incident” and “there is no evidence they were breaking in.”

A preliminary examination is scheduled for Aug. 24.
