NEW YORK (AP) - A New Jersey based marijuana dealer will spend life in prison for murdering a New Yorker during a robbery.

U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara (buh-RAH’-ruh) says Anthony Grecco of Manville, New Jersey, was sentenced Wednesday in White Plains, New York.

Prosecutors said Grecco’s marijuana supply had dried up and he was desperate for cash.

In August 2014, he pretended he was delivering drugs to Ryan Ennis at an apartment in Ossining, New York.

Instead, he slashed Ennis’ throat and stole $8,900 in cash. Then he went back to New Jersey, showered and threw away his blood-stained clothes.

Prosecutors said Grecco had planned to use the money to invest in another New Jersey dealer’s heroin business.

He was convicted in January of robbery, murder and conspiring to distribute marijuana and heroin.
