KEOKUK, Iowa (AP) - Police have identified the body of a man discovered inside a stolen vehicle pulled from the Des Moines River west of Keokuk in Lee County.

Keokuk Police Chief D.C. Hinton tells the Hawk Eye (https://bit.ly/2aPrpQT0 ) that 22-year-old Brett Edmiston, of Keokuk, drowned and that his death has been ruled accidental.

Hinton says Edmiston was identified through dental records.

Officials say the sport utility vehicle was reported stolen on Saturday. The next day, police were told that Edmiston was missing.

Police found tire tracks on Sunday leading into the river and then the SUV in about 15 feet of water. A tow truck was used to recover the vehicle Sunday evening, and Edmiston’s body was found inside.
