WATERTOWN, Conn. (AP) - Police are searching for a burglar who made off with a number of valuable pieces and non-precious sample jewelry in a late night heist at a family-owned jewelry store in Watertown.

The robbery occurred at David Jewelers on Straits Turnpike at about 3 a.m. Wednesday.

The Republican-American reports the thief smashed four showcases and stole more than $10,000 in merchandise. Among the items taken include religious medals, baby jewelry and pendants.

George Hajjar says he’s owned the business for 40 years and was only the victim of a robbery once before.

Police do not have a description of the suspect. He’s believed to have escaped in a dark-colored sedan.

Police say they are processing physical evidence recovered from the scene.
