MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - Officials say cleanup crews have arrived on the scene of a large water main break that flooded an intersection in Manchester.

WMUR-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2aLFGf7 ) the break occurred around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday on the corner of Merrill and Beech streets. It appears that the water burst through the ground, leaving a large hole in the middle of the intersection.

Neighborhood residents reported seeing water gushing out of the hole and flooding the street. As of 10 p.m., the water was beginning to slowly drain back into the sewer.

Workers have been busy cleaning up mounds of sand that materialized on the street as a result of the flooding.

The cause of the break is currently unknown.
