POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) - Police say five people are being treated for injuries after lightning struck a Poughkeepsie park during a fast-moving thunderstorm.

Poughkeepsie police say emergency responders were called to Mansion Square Park for reports of people struck by lightning shortly after 4 p.m. Friday. Medical personnel started CPR on three people who were unresponsive. Two people were conscious but hurt. Some belongings were on fire.

Police say the people are 46 to 55 years old and had been gathered around a park bench.

Mayor Rob Rolison says at least one of the most seriously injured people was talking with doctors Friday evening. He’s hopeful all will recover.

The incident happened two days after a man and woman were found dead in a western New York cemetery where they were struck by lightning.
