SCIO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a 14-year-old Detroit boy has died after being pulled from the Huron River in Washtenaw County.

The Ann Arbor News reports that Abdulrahman Labak was wading in the water on Thursday afternoon Scio Township when he began to struggle and family members couldn’t locate him.

Sheriff’s department spokesman Derrick Jackson says a dive team was called and soon found the boy. He was taken to a hospital, where Jackson says he was pronounced dead. Jackson says a relative who tried to find the boy was treated for minor injuries.

Jackson tells The Detroit News it “seems like a very tragic drowning death at this point.”
