ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) - Two Philadelphia teens had to be saved during a morning swim in Atlantic City.

The Press of Atlantic City reports (https://bit.ly/2aQwPL5 ) police were called just after 8:30 a.m. Thursday to New York Avenue for a report of a person in trouble in the water. Lifeguards weren’t on duty yet.

By the time officers arrived, a former lifeguard was already in the water helping the girls. Police say one of the officers entered the ocean with a flotation device along with a firefighter.

The 16-year-old and 18-year-old girls were pulled from the water and treated by medical personnel at the scene. Authorities say they refused further treatment.
