SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a fugitive who fled rape charges in central New York by traveling to Africa and the United Kingdom has been returned to the U.S.

The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office says 49-year-old Tobias Bowen has been brought back from London and is scheduled to appear Friday in a Syracuse courtroom.

Officials say Bowen was charged with rape and criminal sex act in March 2010, when he lived in a Syracuse suburb. After posting bail, he fled to his native Liberia, where he worked as an administrator of a government hospital.

After authorities tracked him there they learned he was traveling to England in April 2014. He was taken into custody getting off a plane at a London airport.

It couldn’t immediately be learned from authorities if Bowen has an attorney who could comment on the charges.
