HELENA, Mont. (AP) - A registered violent offender who was arrested in Wyoming on suspicion of abducting a Montana girl earlier this month has been returned to Montana and is being held in the state prison while charges against him are considered.

Madison County Sheriff Roger Thompson says 60-year-old Rodney Lee Zahn was returned to Montana on Thursday on warrants charging him with violating his probation on a previous aggravated assault conviction and for failing to register his address when he was in Sheridan.

Zahn was suspected of abducting a mentally delayed 16-year-old girl from Sheridan early on Aug. 3. They were located on Aug. 4 in Casper, Wyoming, and the girl was returned to her parents.

Thompson says it’s not clear who will prosecute Zahn, in part because he left the state with the girl.
