PALMER, Mass. (AP) - An East Longmeadow man authorities say caused the death of a town councilor’s son in a car crash has been sentenced to probation.

Brian Perron was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to negligent driving in connection with the July 2015 crash that killed 30-year-old Daniel Federici. Federici was the son of East Longmeadow Town Council Vice President Paul Federici.

The Republican newspaper (https://bit.ly/2aOnEJk ) reports that the 35-year-old Perron was sentenced to two years in jail with the entire sentence suspended for five years of probation. He was also ordered to speak at schools four times per year about dangerous driving.

Police say Perron was driving as fast as 65 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone when he crashed, killing his passenger and friend, Federici.

Perron was not intoxicated.
