EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - A gas main fire in southern New Jersey is out after it burned for more than eight hours.

South Jersey Gas says the fire ignited around 1:45 p.m. Thursday in Egg Harbor Township when a live electric wire came in contact a guardrail, which carried the current to an 8-inch gas main.

The fire shut down a street near the Garden State Parkway, forced nearby residents and businesses to evacuate and caused power outages.

The blaze was eventually contained around 10 p.m.

No injuries were reported.
