GREECE, N.Y. (AP) - A Rochester-based development company has been contracted to revitalize a publicly-owned marina on a Lake Ontario bay that has been plagued by problems caused by silting.

The Daniele (dan-YEHL’-ee) Family Companies has reached a 25-year agreement with the Monroe County town of Greece to operate and make improvements to the Braddock Bay Marina. The plan calls for the company to invest $1.5 million into the property, including replacing dilapidated dock space for up to 300 boats.

Business at the town’s marina dwindled over the years as silting made it difficult for boats to navigate the bay.

A $9 million federally funded dredging and restoration project underway by the Army Corps of Engineers includes building a barrier beach that will help keep excessive silt and sand out of the bay.
