YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) - A Yakima police officer who shot and killed a man after responding to a domestic disturbance call has been cleared of criminal wrongdoing by the Yakima County Prosecutor’s Office.

The Yakima Herald-Republic reports (https://bit.ly/2aQPw1d ) that Prosecuting Attorney Joe Brusic said in a report issued Tuesday that Officer Brad Althauser was justified in the June 10 shooting of 50-year-old J. Juan Briseno-Ortega. He determined Althauser had believed his life and the life of another man had been in danger when he opened fire.

Police had been called to a home that Briseno-Ortega and his 52-year-old brother shared after a neighbor reported a fight between the two men.

Althauser had told investigators he shot Briseno-Ortega as he saw the man reach for what he says was a gun in his waistband.
