LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Authorities say a 4-year-old girl who accidentally shot herself with a stolen gun is expected to survive.

The Courier-Journal reports (https://cjky.it/2bdJgmw ) the shooting happened at about 8:45 p.m. Thursday in the city’s Algonquin neighborhood. Louisville Metro Police spokeswoman Alicia Smiley told the newspaper detectives determined a stolen gun was inside the house and that the girl accidentally shot herself.

Smiley said the girl’s mother and the girl’s mother’s boyfriend both deny owning the gun. Charges against one or both could be possible pending the outcome of an investigation, Smiley said.

The girl, whose name has not been released, was taken to Kosair Children’s Hospital.
