TROUTDALE, Ore. (AP) - Dozens of soccer players are playing in a tournament this weekend to honor a 14-year-old who was shot and killed in 2014 at a high school east of Portland.

KGW-TV reports (https://goo.gl/cdS1pm ) that 14 teams are playing this weekend in the 3rd annual Emilio Hoffman Memorial Soccer Tournament at Reynolds High School in Troutdale.

On June 10, 2014, 15-year-old freshman Jared Padgett opened fire after arriving at the high school heavily armed. He killed 14-year-old Emilio Hoffman in the boy’s locker room, and another bullet grazed physical education teacher Todd Rispler. When confronted by officers, Padgett shot and killed himself.

Hoffman’s mother founded a nonprofit that puts on the soccer tournament and other events to increase awareness about mental health and help prevent youth violence.
