ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A former office manager for Fletcher Fire and Rescue has admitted stealing about $350,000 from the department over seven years.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reports (https://avlne.ws/2b2YZ4p ) that Brenda Livingston pleaded guilty to embezzlement in federal court. She awaits sentencing.

Prosecutors say she stole the money between October 2008 and December 2015, when the investigation started.

Livingston told investigators she used the money to pay bills and buy presents. She also gave some of the money to her children.

Livingston had worked at the fire department since 2003.
