SANDS POINT, N.Y. (AP) - Police say four people are safe after a sailboat got into trouble in a storm off Long Island.

The Nassau County Police Department says the sailboat’s captain made a mayday call around 7 p.m. Friday, saying he’d lost power in Half Moon Bay near Sands Point.

The 32-foot boat was drifting perilously close to rocks as it drifted toward shore.

Marine officers were able to reach it and pull it to safer waters to await a tow boat. It was brought to Manhasset Bay.

Police say no one was injured.
