ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - The mother of an Albuquerque teen who was gunned down in a drive-by shooting is now serving as the police department’s community outreach coordinator.

KOB-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2bze4f2 ) that Nicole Chavez-Lucero had been working closely with the Albuquerque Police Department ever since her 17-year-old Jaydon Chavez-Silver was gunned down in June 2015.

APD Chief Gorden Eden says when he started looking for someone to handle the community policing councils that he realized Chavez-Lucero has experience in community outreach for health care.

Chavez-Silver was killed while at an Albuquerque house party. Nicholas Gonzales has pleaded guilty in connection to the shooting.
