DETROIT (AP) - Police say a 16-year-old boy has been killed in a drive-by shooting on the city’s east side.

Police say a black sedan occupied by two males pulled up as the teenager was standing on a street corner early Friday and the front seat passenger opened fire. Police say the boy was shot in the body and was taken to a Detroit hospital, where he later died.

Rhonda Martin tells WWJ-AM that her son Terell Martin-Coleman was the one shot. She says he was outside of their home with his brothers, ages 24 and 14, at the time. She says it “happened so suddenly” and it’s “just too much” to have to bury her son.

Police canvassed the neighborhood following the shooting, but no arrests were reported.
