RUSSELLVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say a northwest Alabama woman is charged with a felony after allegedly leaving one of her children in a hot van.

Russellville police say 24-year-old Maria Isabel Martinez Tomas is charged with child abuse and a misdemeanor count of endangering a child.

Police were called to a Walmart parking lot Monday after a passer-by saw a small child in a vehicle with no air running and a cracked window. Police broke a window to rescued the 2-year-old, who authorities say was in heat distress.

WHNT-TV (https://bit.ly/2axsSdb ) reports officers went inside the store to find Tomas with two other children and arrested her. They say the child was outside in the car for about 20 minutes.

Court files aren’t yet available to show if the woman has a lawyer.
