MILWAUKEE (AP) - Federal bankruptcy filings are at their lowest level in nine years.

Court records show 9,058 filings were made during the first half of the year - down about 11 percent from the same time last year. The last time there were fewer than 10,000 bankruptcy filings through June was 2007.

Bankruptcy attorney Robert Waud tells the Journal Sentinel (https://bit.ly/2asRiqP ) filings are down because many people have returned to work and the economy has improved.

Nationwide, bankruptcy filings declined about 6 percent in the first half of the year compared to the same time last year.
