AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - A Texas sheriff’s deputy who was shot and killed at his home north of Austin last week in what authorities said appeared to be an attempted burglary has been remembered at his funeral as a man of his word who tried to teach people.

The funeral for Sgt. Craig Hutchinson of the Travis County Sheriff’s Office was held Tuesday in Austin. He died July 25 after he was found shot behind his Round Rock home. He was 54.

The Austin American-Statesman (https://atxne.ws/2afgXob ) reports that Travis County Sheriff Greg Hamilton told those gathered that Hutchinson was a man who did what he said and said what he did.

Sheriff’s deputy Greg Lawson said Hutchinson had a passion for training and mentoring. Lawson says Hutchinson always tried to teach people.
