VICKSBURG, Miss. (AP) - Vicksburg and Warren County officials have launched an improved Code Red warning system featuring a smartphone app and the ability to provide more accurate emergency warnings to residents wherever they are.

Bill Ford, a technician with the city’s IT department, tells The Vicksburg Post (https://bit.ly/2asBfJ6) residents will be able put in multiple telephone numbers and multiple addresses, but they can’t use the same number for more than one address.

Vicksburg implemented Code Red in 2010, and that county moved to the system in 2012. Most residents are familiar with the service for providing information about severe weather. Ford says the warnings will target addresses in a designated area instead of broadcasting countywide.
