ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) - A drawdown of Indian Creek reservoir near Woodworth is scheduled to begin the day after Labor Day.

Rick McGuffee, district biologist supervisor for the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, says the drawdown is needed for hydrilla control.

The Town Talk reports (https://townta.lk/2arysgl) Rapides Parish police jurors approved the recommended drawdown during a committee meeting on Monday.

The drawdown is to begin Sept. 6 and end Dec. 15.

McGuffee says the move will help fight the spread of salvinia as well as hydrilla.

He says the drawdown also will provide an opportunity for work on piers and property along the lake.
