WEST UNION, Iowa (AP) - A man has been given 25 years in prison for trying to run over an officer in Fayette County.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports (https://bit.ly/2ap5gbC ) that Abel Quijas (KEE’-hahs) Jr., of Maynard, was sentenced last month. In May he was convicted of attempted murder.

Prosecutors say officers posing as delivery men intercepted a package with crystal methamphetamine from California meant for Quijas, who was staying at his father’s home in September 2014. A pursuit ensued, and authorities say Quijas tried to kill an Oelwein (OHL’-wyne) police officer by running him over with a car.

Quijas was treated for a gunshot wound after the incident.
