STROUDSBURG, Pa. (AP) - A Pennsylvania man has been charged with killing a woman whose 2011 death was first thought to be a suicide.

Forty-nine-year-old James Bidwell, of Tobyhanna, was in custody awaiting arraignment Tuesday on charges of criminal homicide and evidence tampering in the June 2011 death of 27-year-old Kristen Wagner.

Employees found Wagner’s body hanging in a junkyard Bidwell owned in Stroud Township, and he claimed to be out of town on business.

In reality, Monroe County prosecutors say Bidwell was at a nearby bar and had choked Wagner then hanged her body to make it look like suicide.

Investigators reopened the case in 2014 after a witness told authorities Bidwell confessed. Authorities say Bidwell was having an affair with Wagner in exchange for providing her painkillers and methamphetamine.

Court records don’t list a defense attorney.
