SPARKS, Nev. (AP) - Police say a Sparks man officers fatally shot during a traffic stop last week brandished a gun before police opened fire.

Reno police investigating the shooting said in a statement Tuesday the motorist refused to follow orders from Sparks police before he was killed about 11 a.m. Thursday. They identified the victim for the first time as 41-year-old Jorge Moreno-Aguirre of Sparks.

Reno police spokesman Tim Broadway said officers performing CPR discovered a second firearm concealed in the suspect’s pants pocket.

Police say he was barreling down streets the wrong way at high speeds in a Jeep Cherokee and hit several vehicles before police stopped him near a city recreation center in northeast Sparks. Children at a summer program were briefly locked inside a gym.

Broadway said an investigation is continuing.
