HONOLULU (AP) - The late U.S. Rep. Mark Takai will lie in state at the Hawaii state Capitol this month.

Takai’s office said in a statement Tuesday a remembrance ceremony will be held for the congressman at the state Capitol on Aug. 18, followed by a public viewing.

A memorial service will be held for Takai the following day in Kaneohe at the First Presbyterian Church of Honolulu.

The war veteran and long-time legislator died last month at the age of 49 after a months-long battle with pancreatic cancer.

Takai served in the state House of Representatives for 20 years before he was elected to Congress. He won his first statehouse seat at age 27. He served as a lieutenant colonel in the Hawaii Army National Guard for more than a decade.
