BOILING SPRINGS, S.C. (AP) - Spartanburg County authorities say a 16-year-old has been charged in the death of a man who was shot in the carport of his Boiling Springs home.

Sheriff’s deputies tell media outlets the teen was charged Monday with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and malicious injury to property.

Coroner Rusty Clevenger tells local media outlets that 60-year-old George Kevin Rush was shot and killed about 6 a.m. Monday. The teen was arrested at the scene, and deputies say he kicked out window of a sheriff’s cruiser while being taken into custody.

Sheriff Chuck Wright says Rush was a concealed weapons permit holder. Deputies say a gun found at the crime scene was his and that they believe it’s the same gun used in the shooting.
