SCOTIA, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a teenage girl has died after being hit by an Amtrak train in the Schenectady County village of Scotia.

The accident happened around 1:15 p.m. Tuesday when a train carrying 167 people from Niagara Falls to New York City struck the girl, who had been walking with two friends.

The train was held for an hour and a half as police and Amtrak officials investigated.

Police say local residents often cross the tracks on a shortcut path linking Scotia and neighboring Glenville.

The girl’s name hasn’t been released, but police say it’s a 16-year-old girl from the town of Glenville.
