JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) - A 23-year-old woman has pleaded not guilty to manslaughter in the death of her boyfriend who was found stabbed to death in his northern New Jersey apartment.

NJ.com reports (https://bit.ly/2atR9Uj ) Cateline Hichos entered the plea Monday during her initial court appearance on charges of manslaughter, hindering prosecution and weapons offenses in the death of 22-year-old Kevin Argueta.

Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Michael D’Andrea says the Guttenberg woman told investigators she stabbed Argueta using a knife in his apartment, then left the home and threw the knife into the Hudson River. The knife hasn’t been recovered.

Prosecutors didn’t disclose a motive.

Defense attorney Joel Silberman says there may have been an “element of self-defense” involved in the case, but he didn’t elaborate.
