GUILFORD, N.H. (AP) - Three teenagers are receiving medical treatment after nearly drowning in Lake Winnipesaukee near the Governor’s Island Channel in Gilford.

The State Police Marine Patrol says the teens and other family members arrived at the lake on a pontoon boat Saturday afternoon. Some were swimming in waist deep water near the anchored boat when a wave swept them into deeper water and they began struggling.

The boat’s operator, 24-year-old Ali Cheema of East Elmhurst, New York, and other boaters, including vessels operated by an off-duty Woodstock police officer and an off-duty Wilton firefighter, helped get the teens aboard.

Two girls, 15- and 18-years-old, have been taken to a local hospital for evaluation. A 15-year-old boy, on whom CPR was performed, has been transferred to Boston Children’s Hospital. All are conscious.
