TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - Tupelo Regional Airport is set to get an infusion of cash to repair its taxiway.

The Daily Journal reports (https://bit.ly/2b8z0It ) that Mississippi’s two Republican U.S. Senators, Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker, announced Friday that the Tupelo Airport Authority will receive $948,223.

Most of that money comes from the Federal Aviation Administration for airport safety and infrastructure.

The taxiway runs parallel to the runway. Due to deterioration it must be repaved.

An inspection last December by the FAA showed cracks and other issues that needed to be fixed. That prompted airport officials to push the project a little harder.

Airport director Cliff Nash says he hopes the work can begin in October and that it will take several weeks to finish. The work will be done at night.
